What is a Cookie?
A cookie is a bit of data that gets added to the user’s web browser every time the user visits a certain website. The cookie stays in the user’s browser and changes the way the browser displays and interacts with certain pages. Cookies are responsible for:
- Saving a user’s preferences
- Recording and saving a user’s activity (Recording items that a user added to an online shopping cart)
- Autocomplete functions (Saving information that a user inputted into a similar field before)
- Delivering targeted ads to the user based on user data and behavior
In affiliate marketing, a cookie is how affiliate programs track visitors and whether they made a purchase or not through your affiliate link.
